About the university

This university is represented by “Medical Doctor” in all its branches around the world.

Faculty of Medicine of the University of Latvia was founded on September 28, 1919 and re-established on December 29, 1997. The Faculty’s programmes in the areas of medicine, nursing and pharmacy are very contemporary, and their development is based on the latest scientific achievements combined with the Scandinavian experience. All the study programmes of the Faculty of Medicine are accredited and consistent with the standards of the European Union. The teaching languages are Latvian and English. Each one of these programmes has received the highest rating during the national study programme evaluation process carried out by the Council of Higher Education and was deemed to be highly sustainable.

Along with some of the most distinguished Latvian experts in the field of medicine, there are also many young and talented lecturers employed by the Faculty. In addition, the Faculty’s academic staff is frequently joined by guest lecturers from Sweden and the United States of America.

About the place

Practical classes and field practice are crucial components of the studying process, thus they commence as early as the 3rd semester of studies and are carried out in the leading clinics and medical facilities of Riga. In the field of research, a wide collaboration with scientific institutions in Latvia provides an opportunity for the students to cement their academic knowledge and motivates them to take an in-depth approach to applied science.

Each year the European Union citizens studying at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Latvia can participate in the EU educational exchange programme ERASMUS+ and spend from 3 months up to a full academic year at a college or university in any other EU member state.

International program offers

  • General Medicine: 6-year program
  • Dentistry: 5-year program

  • General secondary education diploma
  • English language proficiency
  • Positive grades in Biology, Chemistry or Natural Sciences

Tuition fees

  • General Medicine: 9,000 Euro for the first year
  • Dentistry: 14,000 Euro per year
